Objective
Worldwide unified scales should be achieved for all hardness tests using conical indenters (HRC, HRA, HRD, HR15N, HR30N and HR45N). This should be performed by means of metrological examinations of the influences concerning the differences between the values measured on reference blocks and of those obtained from round robin tests.
Aim of this project is that for all hardness measurements with conical diamond indenters each laboratory in institutes or in industry will be in the position to produce measuring values of the same magnitude within small ranges. The ISO Committee ISO TC 164 SC3 - responsible for hardness of metallic materials
agreed unambiguously at the meeting in March, 1995 to ISO
resolution No 158 proposed by two European and one non-European country (all three are proposed to participate in a round robin test under discussion). The ISO resolution corroberates the necessity of the unified hardness scales for the Rockwell scales using conical indenters
