European workshop on environmental stress and sustainable agriculture

Objective

It is proposed to organise a workshop in Bulgaria in September 2002 entitled "European Workshop on Environmental Stress and Sustainable Agriculture". The workshop will address the effects of environmental stresses exacerbated by global climate change on sustainability and to provide a report suggesting strategies whereby such effects may be mitigated. The themes of the workshop will be 1) Stress recognition and signal transudation 2) Metabolic dimensions of environmental stress: polemics and metabolomics 3) Applications of biotechnology in sustainable agriculture under environmental stress 4) Ecological agriculture or transgenic: which way for sustainability?. The workshop will draw speakers from across the whole of Europe and the active participation of young scientists will be encouraged.
