A new integrated bioleaching process for agricultural applications of wastewater sludges

Objective

This proposed research project concerns the bio leaching of wastewater sludge in order to remove the heavy metals and to use the activated fuel fly ash as stabilizing agent. Various attempts have been made to solubilise heavy metals from sewage sludge using chemical methods. The disadvantages of such technology are often due to the presence of heavy metals in the insoluble sulphide form. The proposed bacterial leaching seems to be more environmentally friend and economically favourable operation. The stabilization/pasteurisation procedure will be carried out using activated carbon fly ash. In fact the mechanical activation of such compounds greatly improve the reactivity characteristics of fly ash and the complete stabilization of sewage sludge is eventually achieved. Texts for agricultural applications will be carried out.
