Objective
The prime objective of this proposal is to explore the most effective way to increase availability of water for several Mediterranean countries which have an urgent needfor fresh drinking water at the lowest possible cost. In the summer of 1999 there is an exceptional drought in the region and as there are fequent droughts, the emergency situation may prolong into the year 2000 or return in subsequent years. This proposal plans a joint research initiative that specifically targets long-range sustainable development in Mediterranean countries which will eventually help manage the scarce water resources in each country. This wil be enhanced by research co-operation betwen the Mediterranean Partner Countries. The project focuses on both water recycling and efficiency, while assessing the environmental impact of the proposed solutions.
