Anti-disease approach for immunological control of livestock trypanosomosis

Objective

Trypanomosis is a major constraint to livestock productivity in the developing world. The existing control options are not entirely satisfactory and there is little hope for a conventional vaccine. We propose an alternative immunological approach which aims at reducing the pathological consequences of trypanosome infection, through immunisation against parasite cytokine protease (Caps). Initial for Caps in pathology. The project will evaluate the effects of immunisation with recombinant trypanosome CPS on health and productivity of: ruminants. An important basic component is included, which aims at molecular and genetic characterisation the host. As Caps are major antigens in trypanosome-infected cattle, it is proposed to also evaluate the diagnostic potential of recombinant and. synthetic products.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
