Objective
This collaborative research effort by EU researchers and 12 Asian countries seeks to extend techniques developed in Europe to comparative assessment of equity in financing, spending, utilisation and health status in Asian health systems. One objective is to develop new techniques to assess equity in the context of developing countries. It will couple methods of micro-level analysis developed to assess equity in Europe with the expertise of Asian countries in developing macro-level national health expenditure accounts and making accurate estimates of household spending in contexts of poor data. In addition, the project seeks to develop protocols for extending national health accounting systems to the analysis of equity in spending and financing.
