Objective
This research aims to identify the socio-economic and policy conditions, and implementation measures, that will favour progress in sustainable development in water and sanitation management (WSM) systems. It addresses the environmental aspects of WSM, and also the need for achieving greater equity and democratic accountability. The project examines the impact of the increased but uneven recent expansion of private capital investment in the WSM sector of developing countries. It aims to contribute to the understanding of interactions between international money flow, investment and trade in the provision of water and sanitation services. PRINWASS' overall objective is to
a) achieve a better understanding of the reasons for current policy and institutional failure in WSM,
b) suggesting policy criteria for enhancing the likelihood of practical achievements;
c) proposing adaptations to the currently-prevailing policy model.
