Assessment of the environmental and agronomic appropriateness of bt transgenic cotton in small-producer ipm systems in china

Objective

The project develops and demonstrates methods to enable regulatory authorities, extension system personnel and Chinese small-holder farmers, to evaluate the environmental , biological and social appropriateness of the use of genetically engineered cotton expressing an insecticide (Bt) toxin. It produces a risk assessment toolkit, product stewardship tools and assessment exercises for IPM training including in Farmer Field Schools, and advances the transgenic policy debate in China
