Organization of an international colloquium: "moving targets: parasites, resistance and access to drugs" from 4 to 6 december 2000

Objective

For more than 40 years the Institute of Tropical Medicine (Antwerp) has been organizing an annual colloquium on a topic of public health importance in developing countries. Its aim is to provide an up-to-date overview of the problem and possible solutions by bringing together leading experts, health professionals and scientists from north and south. This year the colloquium is jointly organized by the Institute of Tropical Medicine and Medicines sans Frontiers (MSF) and will focus on issues related to the treatment of major tropical diseases. More specifically the colloquium will focus on the ever- increasing problem of drug resistance in malaria and other diseases, the lack of safe and efficacious drugs for forgotten diseases such as trypanosomiasis and leishmaniasis and the limited access to existing or new drugs for many people in the developing world.
