Objective
The project will support the organization of an international colloquium entitled "Gender, Population and Development in Africa". It will be held in Abidjan in February 2001. Its objective is to gather the results of research conducted in the field, in Sub-Saharan countries and in North Africa, on gender systems and their interrelations with population and development issues, and to put these results at the disposal of decision-makers, of field operators and of training staff. This colloquium organized in collaboration with European and African institutions, will promote the circulation of knowledge between English and French-speaking researchers, between Africans scholars and Africans from other continents. More than one hundred researchers and field workers have proposed contributions. Nine sessions will successively deal with: notional and methodological developments, efforts made in the area of rights, gender inequalities in the areas of production, migration, health, and education, gender relations in the couple, reproduction and family structures.
