Sustainable settlements in peri-urban areas: with special reference to impacts of transport and energy on natural resources management.

Objective

Urbanization is often cited as a significant factor contributing to land use changes and natural resource degradation. What is not discussed is that the impaction environmental degradation due to this. This project will identify the interlinkages between socio-economic and environmental processes; understand the existing institutional mechanism; understand energy and transport sector pressure son natural resources in the urban-urban interface. The project will expose the Geoscientists to the problems of PUI in Indian region and multidisciplinary approach of impact assessment techniques that are advanced in the third world countries and that will be useful to the communities. This will lead to improve food security, improve health, and quality of life, and thus sustainable economic and social and scientific development of India. Finally the knowledge gained and results obtained in this project will be disseminated in technical and non-technical formats.
