The role of NGOs in health and care in Tanzania and Uganda

Objective

The Research aims to enhance capacity of policy-makers and NGO leaders to improve relationships between NGO and public sectors in health. Studies will be conducted in Tanzania and Uganda, together with a comparative study. The research includes an NGO survey and interviews with key informants. Case studies in the areas of HIV /AIDS and disability will be carried out to assess the role of NGOs in policy making. The research will result in enhanced knowledge about the functioning of NGOs in Tanzania and Uganda, and in particular their actual and potential contribution to policy-making. Deliverables are country studies of Tanzania and Uganda, a comparative study between the 2 countries, and a framework for development of policies towards NGOs.
