Gestion partagee et durable des espaces agricoles et naturels a la peripherie des centres urbains-shared and sustainable management of natural and agricultural areas surrounding urban centers

Objective

Cities expand, eating away at agricultural areas and causing land use conflicts at the rural -urban interface. These zones are determinant in supplying cities and are sources of revenue and employment The preservation of these areas requires complex negotiations involving urban and rural populations, the State and local elected officials. The research program will analyse the stakes and dynamics (land ownership , agricultural systems, environmental impact observed in these areas and study the impact that making such information available has on the management of resources . The results shall be turned into information tools that will serve as the basis for inter-stakeholder consultation. Sociological analysis shall measure the effect of improved shared knowledge on the land use negotiations and spatial planning policy decisions. This 3-year program in 2 countries shall involve pluridisciplinary teams from 3 European and 6 African organizations.
