Objective
Aquatic ecosystems continue to be overexploited and at the same time under-utilised, they provide only a small fraction of the benefits they could produce if properly managed. High quality scientific information about aquatic ecosystems in a widely understandable form is essential to slow and reverse this global trend. The Fish Base information system and research network on fish, fisheries, and aquatic ecosystems will be used to disseminate relevant information. This AM will provide indirect RTD support for 22 members from 19 countries, especially aiming at: strengthening the networking among European and developing country partners; conducting 5 workshops for co-ordination of research among European and developing country partners; increasing the impact of the research co-operations through dissemination of results to other scientists, decision-makers and the public; and involvement of the interested public in monitoring fish biodiversity.
