Objective
PROMIS is to demonstrate an FM wireless delivery system for electronic press and information services, with the terminal base consisting of standard industrial pocket receivers and portable computers. Applications for both business and the general public will include electronic broadcast distribution for press and newspapers, wireless extension of existing on-line services and regional and local broadcasting. Added-value services like automatic financial news updates, in which data broadcast systems complement traditional media, are envisaged, while broadcast applications will address specific user groups, such as tourist offices, besides the general public.
