The Wild North - an adventure travel information service for the Nordic countries

Objective

In the Nordic countries there are hundreds of small enterprises that offer exiting services in the field of adventure travel. The problem is, they are mostly too small to make themselves known to the potential customers outside their own countries. The Wild North is a cd-rom hybrid that produces multimedia information about adventure travel services of the Nordic countries. It aims to bring the European travel agencies and the travel service providers of the Nordic countries together on mutually beneficial terms. The Wild North can also reach the customers directly, so they can plan and book their northern holidays themselves, if they wish. For the European travel agencies The Wild North system will be a nice asset, for the small travel service firms in the Nordic countries it will be a revelation. Its impact on employment in the north will also be quite positive. The wild North consists of a multimedia cd-rom disc augmented by an online service. All the heavy data, i.e. multimedia articles and advertisements, is on the cd-rom disc. All the constantly changing data is on our internet servers. Both types of data are interwined into a single computer program. The end product is both comprehensive and up-to-date. When the adventure oriented traveller consults a travel agent that has access to the Wild North system, he/she can aquaint him/herself with the types of experiences the Nordic countries can offer. If he/she finds the results pleasing, the agent can book all services the customer wants, including accommodation, with the same program. Or, if the traveller has acquired the Wild North disc and online connection him/herself, he/she can make all the reservations even without the aid of a professional travel agent.
