Northern Hemisphere Mesozoic palynozonation

Objective

This research aims to formulate an integrated, regionally-applicable palynozonation for the European Mesozoic sedimentary successions. The zonation should emphasize pandemic forms, be as refined as possible and be tailored to industrial usage.

The research falls into two distinct phases. Firstly, research into the stratigraphical distribution of Jurassic-Cretaceous palynomorphs from the Russian platform will be instigated. Samples will be correlated with the standard (ammonite) zonation in order to provide independent age control. The major emphasis will be on dinoflagellate cysts. Following the data capture phase, a local and pan-European zonation will be formulated. The relative wealth of north-west European data will be compared and contrasted with those from the NIS and the most appropriate zonal indices selected.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
