Computer modelling of granites in orogenic belts: the petrogenesis and metallogenesis of the Mesozoic granites of the Mongol-Okhotsk zone, Siberia, Russia and Mongolia

Objective

Available geochemical data, together with relevant petrological, tectonic and geophysical data, will be used to study the petrogenetic, geochemical and, in particular, the metallogenic evolution of the Mesozoic granitoids of the Mongol-Okhotsk zone (MOZ). A comparison of a Russian classification system will be made with those classifications used elsewhere, with a view to developing a common classification and nomenclature for the MOZ and, subsequently, for other regions in the NIS.

The first phase of the research will involve a detailed examination and integration of existing datasets on PCs. Detailed studies and modelling will then be carried out on selected intrusions as the basis of establishing a common nomenclature and classification for the Mesozoic granitoids of the MOZ, their tectonic setting and metallogenic potential. Subsequently comparisons will be made with geochemical data for granites in western Europe.

The study will be largely desk-based using an existing extensive geochemical and geological database for the MOZ. The results of this project will include digital datasets, reports and scientific publications for both the scientific community as well as commercial mineral exploration and mining companies.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
