AGL-02 analyser - tunable diode laser spectroscopy: new methods and applications

Objective

This research project aims at the development of an analyser for trace molecule detection by using a tunable diode laser (TDL) system and the technology for handling the system and for the treatment of the experimental data. Moreover, ENEA will organize the installation for carrying out the planned investigation. In particular the TDL spectrophotometer will be an open path apparatus at atmospheric pressure measuring traces of the gas CO.

During the course of the experiments in the field some innovative systems will be tested in order to verify their effectiveness. Among them are new TDL's, special fibre optics, new software and optical devices to improve the ultimate detection.

The research represents for GPI an opportunity to meet directly and to integrate their technology with that in the West in specific and related fields. ENEA will take the opportunity to test the TDL's which have substantial differences with respect to those produced in the West. During this process it will be possible to evaluate the problems and perspectives of the different technologies concerned, acquiring in this way the elements for a wider intervention in this sector, if and when needed.
