Oxygen mobility and catalytic activity of anion modified complex oxides with perovskite and fluorite- type structures in the unsteady-state conditions of selective oxidation-reduction processes

Objective

At the present time the elaboration of new heterogeneous catalysts for selective NOx reduction by hydrocarbons and for selective oxidation of saturated hydrocarbons into syngas and olefins is of a great importance. Such catalysts could be created on the basis of highly defective inorganic compounds marked by reproducible variation of physical and chemical properties depending on synthetic and temperature treatment conditions. Complex oxides of rare earth elements and manganates with perovskite structure from the one hand and Zr-Ce fluorite-type oxides from the other are convenient objects for such investigations.

To reveal the correlations between the oxygen mobility and catalytic activity of the anion modified complex oxides in the processes of selective oxidation and reduction performed in the unsteady-state conditions is the main objective of the resent Project. It is planned that the global aim of the reserch will be reached considering the following key topics:
- detailed characterisation of the initial samples;
- determination of the optimum range of cation and anion composition for the application of the solids under investigation in the heterogeneous catalysis;
- investigation of the oxygen mobility in original and anion modified complex oxides;
- study of the cation and anion ordering in the crystal lattice of selected perovskites and fluorites;
- elaboration of the techniques for the regulation of the oxidation/reduction and acid/base properties of catalysts by variation of cation and anion nonstoichiometry, pre-treatment conditions and anion modification;
- revealing the mechanism of oxygen activation in the catalytic processes;
- elucidation of the factors determining the performance and long-term stability of the anion-modified complex oxides as periodic action catalysts in the processes of NOx reduction and saturated hydrocarbons selective oxidation.

The coordination of the research among the participants will be performed by the Coordinator (Professor E.Kemnitz Humboldt Universitat zu Berlin, Germany) on the basis of well established scientific collaborations between all groups involved into the Project. The results obtained will be presented as scientific papers and conference reports.
