Multi-dimensional numerical simulations in astrophysics: investigation of novae, supernovae and accretion processes

Objective

The main goals of this project are the following ones:

1) Studies of mass accretion onto compact objects;
2) Numerical simulations of classical novae;
3) Studies of burning regimes in pre-supernova and influence of convective URCA shells;
4) Investigation of magnetorotational supernova explosion;
5) Numerical simulation of neutrino mechanism in supernova explosion.

These objectives demand the development of multi-dimensional gas dynamical codes. In order to obtain reliable results it is planned to use both Total Variation Diminishing and Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics numerical approaches. To accelerate the numerical simulations the architecture of modern computers (parallel, vector, and matrix processors) will be taken into account.

Numerical models developed in the framework of the project will be accessible to the astrophysical community. The use of these models for studying novae, supernovae and accretion processes responsible of these phenomena will allow obtaining new information about the astrophysical objects under consideration. These results will also be relevant for the interpretation of observational data.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
