Objective
A coordinated experimental and theoretical study of strongly coupled dusty plasmas will be carried out under conditions of UV-induced plasmas, and low-pressure DC and RF glow discharges. In this project, analyses will be performed of the data of the space experiments last two years.
The main objective of that experiment was to study the formation of ordered dust structures under solar UV radiation in the Earth's upper atmospheric layers. To do this, experimental studies of dust particle ensemble behaviour were made under microgravity conditions. The dust particle charge was induced by solar radiation, and the interaction between the dust particles leads to ordered structures. The dust particles were detected individually by video cameras, because the particles are large enough to scatter light efficiently, yet they occupy a small volume fraction.
Investigation of the formation of charged dust structures under microgravity conditions provides new experimental data that is impossible to realize under Earth-bound conditions. The experimental and theoretical modelling of charged dust structure formation will also be carried out in laboratory studies. This will include: investigations of the static and dynamic structures of dust particles and the formation of crystal structures trapped by electrical fields in various configurations; studies of the dynamics of particle motion and the time evolution of dust structures; studies of phase transitions in the dusty plasma for various parameters and the effects of the dust particles on the background plasma; studies of the transport properties of dust static and dynamic structures. Collaboration between the Russian and INTAS teams will lead to a transfer of knowledge and joint publications.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
