Economy and Demography of Peasant Family in Russia in the XIX-XX centuries

Objectif

1. To study, on the base of original data set, demographic processes in rural population and their socio-economic determinants in one of the regions in Central Russia under different historical conditions:
- before the Reform 1861 (abolition of serfdom in Russia);
- between the Reform and the Revolution 1917;
- between the Revolution and World War II;
2. To elaborate techniques of use of sources that incorporate information on Russian population in the past (parish registers, fiscal lists, communicant's lists, private family archives, civil registration) and to prove their quality and their usefulness in studying the history of Russian population;
3. To apply methods of analysis used in European historical demography (method of family reconstitution, back projection, stochastic inverse projection) to Russian sources of information;
4. To develop a package of methodological recommendation that could allow to make all further studies in history of Russian population in the XIX - first half of the XX centuries uniform and comparable; to apply new methodology to the different data set (Cossack population of Southern Russia in the second half of the XIX century)
Expected results
- Publication of a book "Economy and Demography of Peasant family in Russia in the 19th-20th centuries";
- Elaboration of a methodology that could make studies in the history of Russian population homogenous and comparable
