Femtosecond quantum optics

CORDIS provides links to public deliverables and publications of HORIZON projects.

Links to deliverables and publications from FP7 projects, as well as links to some specific result types such as dataset and software, are dynamically retrieved from OpenAIRE .

Exploitable results

The aim of this project is to shine femtosecond light pulses of high power in order to induce multiphoton or tunnel process on the electrons of metals or of isolated atoms. If the pulse duration is shorter than the electron-photon relaxation time, one foresees a coherent optics at 10-13 sec. In the project new experiments regarding the yield of photon emission and the harmonic content will be done. The UV spectra have therefore to be analyzed. Additionally a theory of laser/metal interaction in the femtosecond regime in view of modelling experiments will be developed for theoretical understanding and modelling the experiments. Novel results are expected in the following areas: efficient photoemission of electrons for high brilliance cathodes; study of the Fermi surface of metals; and production of UV and X-ray by multiphoton processes.
