High-power pulsed UV-visible lasers and applications to surface processing

Objective

The aim of this project is to bring together several groups from the NIS and from western European who are strongly involved in research into high-power pulsed UV-visible lasers and applications to surface processing. These groups have already developed strong scientific connections by visits and exchange programmes over the last ten years. The scientific field of joint interest is low-temperature plasma physics and dynamics while the main technical aim is that of tailoring laser beam characteristics to specific applications in surface processing.

Within the framework of this networking project the joint research will include: advanced excitation schemes using low-temperature plasma for development of high-power high-efficiency UV-visible pulsed lasers; and physico-chemical and hydrodynamic processes and couplings involved in the interaction between a high-power pulsed UV-visible laser beam and a solid target of complex stoichiometry in a reactive atmosphere (study of the plasma plume, thin-film production by laser ablation deposition, large surfaces laser treatment).

This project will include exchanges of scientists and joint meetings, with the research being carried out mainly in Moscow and Marseille.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
