Extraction tests for a H-synchrotron

Objective

The objective of this research project is the realization of medical centres based on a combined H-light ion accelerator for the radiation therapy of cancer and other diseases using charged particle beams. Carrying out experimental tests on the acceleration and extraction of H- beams, and of measuring the properties of the extracted beam to be used for medical applications, is considered a unique opportunity and forms the subject of the project.

Acceleration and extraction of H- ions has been achieved in cyclotrons and linear accelerators, as well as the injection of protons into synchrotrons, by exploiting the charge exchange technique. On the other hand, acceleration and extraction of H- ions in a synchrotron has never been tested but is considered to be of extreme interest for the medical use of the accelerator.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
