Six networks have been established in Russian in the following scientific areas: - catalytic materials, - materials used in nuclear power engineering, - nanophase materials, - ceramics, - materials used in optoelectronics, - special light alloys. The network covers 45 enterprises from 19 cities in Russia. The greater part of the universities, institutes and enterprises being a part of the networks are known as large scientific centres not only in Russia but also in the international scientific and business circles as well. The participants of the project not only organized six networks for the set directions but they also: - held at least 22 meetings, international seminars and meetings, planned some large conferences, seminars and schools for young specialists; - started the organization of the International Centre Fund of Nanophase Material Researches; - organized the Russian Group of Glass Scientists; - planned and in some cases realized the publishing activities: booklets "Catalytic Materials", "Problems of Materials Research Science", "Nanophase Materials". As one of the most important organizational activities, it can be mentioned that the joint participation of MRS-Russia and E-MRS in the work of the International Union of Materials Research Scientists (IUMRS). As to the creation of the global networks in the field of materials, it should be mentioned that the Russian-Chinese Workshop on the Advanced Materials was held in July 1997 in St. Petersburg. At the end of the project, the meeting of the networks associates is in preparation; it is planned to be carried out during the XVI Mendeleev Congress in June 1998 in St. Petersburg.
