Production of radiation hard CSI scintillators for particle physics experiments

Objective

The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland, together with the High Energy Physics Institute of the EHT Zürich in Switzerland and the University of Heidelberg in Germany in collaboration with four institutes in Russia, Ukraine and Georgia will produce detectors for particle physics experiments at PSI and CERN, consisting of radiation hard CsI scintillators.

The NIS institutes will deliver not only large quantities of pure CsI powder but also provide facilities for growing crystals ready to be used in experiments. Two experiments, pion beta decay at PSI and LHC-physics at CERN, Switzerland, to be performed in collaboration, will require the presence of NIS scientists for a limited time at these two institutes.
