Control of translation of specific viral and cellular m-RNAs in plants

Objective

The goal of this project is to detect and characterise the plant cell factors involved in the preferential translation of specific m-RNAs, such as heat shock m-RNAs and mono- and polycistronic virus RNAs. The proteins binding to complex 5' untranslated regions will be determined and their interaction with classical translational factors studied. The interaction of the cauliflower mosaic virus translational transactivator with these factors will also be studied.

Furthermore, the action of a novel ribosome binding 5.3 S RNA strongly enhanced under heat shock conditions will be analysed.
