Exploitable results

Acousto-optical devices have many potential applications in communications, measuring devices, data processing and other fields. The NIS partner in this project has long experience in creating integrated optical devices such as integrated spectrum analyzers. This experience is utilized in the project to create an acousto-optical correlator for special purpose real-time processing of video images. This includes machine stereo vision, surface measurements, decoding of optical flows, and particle image velocimetry with real-time performance. Applied advanced methods in the computer modelling of the developed devices enable the research work to be followed interactively and software to be developed for users of the actual devices. The computer work will concentrate on the building of models for optical devices such as the acousto-optical correlator. These models are to be used in a multilevel simulator. The research work on the acousto-optical correlator will enable a compact industrial prototype using advanced technology to be developed and rational production methods to be prepared.
