Ultrafast dynamics of elementary excitations in the condensed phase

Objective

The dynamics of elementary excitations in large molecular assemblies and clusters, organic, or inorganic is an important issue in energy transport in inhomogeneous media. It is also connected with some interesting problems in the physics of irreversible processes and, in particular, charge transfer in condensed matter.

The project concerns the development of specific techniques for studying some of these processes with ultrashort light pulses. The emphasis will be on the study of the ballistic and non-ballistic charge transport in semiconducto films and on the dynamics of hydrogen bonding in liquids. The development of appropriate sources and techniques, experimental and theoretical will be the central aspect of this project.
