Euromath network and services for the NIS - Phase II

Objective

Euromath network and services (EmNet) aims to facilitate collaborative work and the open exchange of ideas within the mathematical community by means of modern computing networking techniques. EmNet/NIS, which is part of EmNet, pays specific attention to the needs and problems in the NIS. The project is not directly oriented towards mathematical research work but will, in the medium and longer term, contribute substantially to improving the NIS research infrastructure. The system will be open to institutes and universities and also to industrial companies.

The objectives of the project are: to enhance the computing and networking environment of organisations in the NIS (NIS), thereby enabling the creation of end-user oriented services and their integration into the Euromath Network and Services (EmNet); to establish services specially tailored to the needs of the mathematical community in the NIS; to provide researchers in the NIS with a platform facilitating document preparation and exchange and access to external services such as databases, information systems and computer algebra systems (including the installations of the Euromath system); to establish centres as part of EmNet; to catalize the desirable developments outlined above by supporting fund-raising activity and participation in other projects. During the first phase of the project a prototype of an information system and a base for electronic publishing will be created.
