Objective
The purpose of the project is to establish a pan-European network of forest and wood sciences and to create co-operative research projects and scientific programmes at the International Centre of Forestry and Forest Industries (ICFFI) at St. Petersburg Forest Technical Academy. ICFFI will work in the field of education, sciences and business. It will be an association with participation open to all interested organisations of European states.
This project will provide guidelines for the establishment of a solid research programme at the ICFFI. The planned research programmes and co-operation in research will cover the following areas: forestry and landscape gardening; forest exploitation; mechanical processing of wood and furniture production; chemical processing of wood, including manufacture of pulp and other products of chemical processing, biologically active substances, medical preparations and other forest products; machinery for forest and woodworking industries; trade of forest products information.
The creation of a network and research programme will be undertaken by international working groups with participants from Western Europe and NIS countries. The participants in this project will appoint interested researchers or research organisations from their home or neighbouring countries to create a scientific network for the ICFFI. The network will be permanently open to new participants.
Several programmes will be put forward as proposals at the seminar organised by St. Petersburg Forest Technical Academy in October 1995, where all participants of this project will attend. At the seminar the final scientific programme of ICFFI will be compiled with the list of research projects and participating organisations.
