Creation of new types of caesium-hydrogen H- volume sources and experimental investigation of the processes of H- generation in Cs-H2 plasma

Objective

H- sources are currently used in fusion research, in accelerators and plasma technology. The proposed project deals with a new direction of H- source research - the exploration of Cs-H2 low-temperature plasma properties for negative hydrogen ion generation.

The following research will be carried out: the investigation of low-voltage caesium-hydrogen discharge as a new source of H- ions; theoretical investigation of the discharge Cs-H2 plasma diagnostics; diagnostics of negative ions by light absorption; optimization of the discharge parameters for maximum H- yield; the improvement of the existing volume plasma H- sources by using a Cs-H2 plasma in crossed electric and magnetic field volume source and in a tandem volume source.

The H- diagnostics by means of the photodetachment technique in Cs-H2 plasma will be developed. The determination of the H- concentration dependence on Cs and H2 mass flows, magnetic field, discharge voltage, emitter temperature and material will be made. The scaling law for the size of the Cs-H2 volume source will be investigated. The role of volume and surface phenomena in the process of H- generation will be analyzed from the information obtained.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
