A system of macroeconomic models for simulating transition processes in Russia and Ukraine in connection with the economic development in Switzerland and Germany

Objective

The ultimate aim of this project will be to identify strategies for the fostering of economic development in countries in transition and to stimulate East-West trade.

Macroeconomic models will be set up for Russia, Ukraine and Switzerland and linked with an existing model for Germany. The setting up of these models will enable scientific analysis of the transition processes in Russia and Ukraine, and will be the basis of simulations to be used in the adoption of strategies for economic recovery.

The economic transition process in Russia and Ukraine is heavily dependent on west European economies. It seems that the economic development will spread from west to east relying considerably on foreign trade. Therefore the setting up of a system of macroeconomic models for western and eastern countries is necessary for the transition processes to be studied.

The final results of co-operation will be the performance of simulations with the system of models established and analyzed by such methods. These simulations could be used for comparative studies of various economic policies, and to foster the economic recovery of the chosen countries in transition, especially through foreign trade. Proposals will be brought to the attention of politicians and published at a later date.
