Objective
This project aims to develop new plastic scintillators, shaped as long bars as well as thin tiles. The scintillators will be produced at Kharkov and Dubna and should improve on the presently available products both in quality (light emission, transparency, radiation hardness), and in cost.
The basic quality control and parameter test check will be performed by JINR, Dubna, and by IHEP, Protvino. Long-term and radiation resistance tests will be performed at IHEP. Those products passing the first selection will be shipped to Oxford and to Italy, where Russian/Ukrainian scientists will join with local physicists to perform accurate parameter measurements for comparison with those of products available on the western market. Prototype scintillator-bar telescope and scintillator-tile calorimeter towers will be assembled and tested on cosmic rays at Pisa and Pavia.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
