Objective
This project aims at developing the first comprehensive study into the relationship between Greek colonists and the native peoples of the northern coast of the Black Sea, taking into account literary, epigraphic, numismatic onomastic and archaeological data. The research team will take a broad, comprehensive approach and will support excavation activities and promote the analysis of available data and materials on the basis of modern computer technology. The results will be synthesized and published in Slavonic and western languages. Further publication of the results will take place through the organization of an international conference on the topic.
The same methods and technical means will be utilized for further study of some of the most crucial and rewarding places in the region such as the island of Berezan, which holds the first vestiges of Greek colonization, and neighbouring Olbia and Chersonesus on the Crimea, now Sevastopol.
Further archaeological exploration will be pursued on the basis of joint efforts of the partners.
