Objective
The proposed project pursues the objectives of analysing newest developments in economic relations between the federal Centre, regions and local units and their implications for market reforms in Russia, as well as studying the feasibility for Russia of learning from West-European experience of designing economic relations between national and national governments.&L Research activities will cover collection, processing and analysis of scientific literature, legal background, official reports and statistics on the issues under consideration, holding interviews and a case study as well as holding three workshops, one of them with participation of scholars and extives not involved in the project. The expected results of the study imply working out an innovative theoretic and practical approach to acute current and long-term issues of the Centre - periphery relations within the framework of dramatically growing role of regions and local communities in the Russian market reforms and a quick development of national markets; working out practical proposals on the improvement of regional companies' performance in the foreign economic sphere; as well as the examination of the possibility of application West-European experience of designing economic relations between various levels of power.&L The results of the study will be disseminated in articles, conference and parliamentary hearings papers, analytical reports for federal and regional policy-makers, for Russian (including regional) and West European research centres, outlines of educational courses for Russian and West European universities.
