Mixed macrocyclic coordination compounds containing thiosemicarbazide and crown-ether moieties (synthesis, structure and properties)

Objective

New coordination compounds with an original ligand design will be created using template reaction technologie. These ligands will contain two different moieties - crown-ether and Schiff base derived from alkylated isothiosemicarbazide condensed with two 2,3-dioxybenzaldehyde (stituted salicylaldehyde) - and will be able to coordinate two different by acceptor properties metals. Their structure and properties will be studied.
Reactions of partial and total demetalation will be performed in view to prepare the free/or mononuclear macrocycles. The behaviour of these species towards other metals (unable to play the role of template ions) will be investi- gated.
Composition, formation optimum and stability of the complexes in different solvents will be determined.
One group of potential applications is in analytical chemistry : new sensitive electrodes, selective reagents for separation and preconcentration of the elements with closely similar chemical properties.
Another potential for application is that as well as low-temperature superconducting ceramics can be created using these compounds.
