Object-oriented approach to computer algebra in view of applications to theoretical and mathematical physics

Objective

The scientific purpose of the project is the implementation of new mathematical objects, widely used in modern theoretical and mathematical physics, in computer algebra (CA) systems. The object-oriented (OO) approach will be used to achieve this target. This is new technology of solving scientific problems in physics and mathematics by means of CA methods. The project was born from a common understanding that new necessary calculations can only be performed with the intensive use of computer tools based on integration of symbolic calculus and numeric techniques. However, the development of such tools can largely benefit from the study of new approaches and methods devised in solving specific physics problems. Scientists from three to join their efforts and their experiences in theoretical and mathematical physics and computer algebra to reach the aims of the project. The development of new object-oriented tools, that allow to implement new complicate mathematical object and use them in practice work to obtain physical results, is the central point of the project leading toward the new level of solvable problems in science.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
