Kinetics, mollar mechanisms and free radicals in the production and modification of cellulose and its fibres (among them those of annual plants)

Objective

The aim of this project is the development and optimization of ecologically-friendly processes for the production and modification of cellulose and its fibres using wood and annual plants, and the development of new methods of cellulose modification, which are essential for the production of innovative composite materials of high quality.
The dynamics of the delignification process necessary for the production of cellulose from wood will be investigated. Free-radical reactions, mollar mechanisms and polychronous kinetics of the processes will be investigated. Based on these investigations, a polychronous computer-kinetic model will be created for adequate description of the kinetics of examined processes, allowing one to prognosticate quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the processes and materials produced.
New methods of chemical, radiation-chemical and physical modification of wood, plant materials and cellulose will be developed to create new materials and technologies. Radiation-chemical modification of pulp is a method of high efficiency and will be studied in great detail.
As a result of these works:
the mollar mechanisms and free-radical and radical-ion centres in the new
ecological friendly processes will be established;
the polychronous computer-kinetic model of these processes will be
developed;
the methods of producing new composite materials based on cellulose and its
fibres, as well as papers, cardboards will be developed.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
