Objective
The goals of the project are the design, synthesis and study of supramollar systems based on crown ether styryl dyes (CESD) which are capable of drastically changing their ion binding properties upon photoirradiation. 9Various methods will be used to carry out investigation:
new synthetic methods to prepare novel compounds;
single-crystal X-ray diffraction to describe the structure of compounds,
multilayers and their complexes;
optical and fluorescent spectroscopy, Brewster angle reflectivity,
measurements of the surface potential -mollar area, surface pressure -
mollar area to study complexes of CESD with metal cations, monolayers and
LB films built up from CESD;
mollar simulations, quantum chemical calculations to predict the most
effective model. Such compounds are expected to be suitable for the creation of selective chromo- and ionophores for heavy and transition metal cations, the large size cations and small organic molles;
photocontrolled extraction of metal ions from water;
polymer and LB films with photoswitching properties;
materials with photoswitching properties for mollar electronics. Theoretical understanding of structural and electronic properties of CESD will be obtained, thus providing the basis for the creation of materials with prescribed properties.
