Objective
In this project a systematic study of thermodynamic and thermophysical properties for a series of 1-methylimidazolium ionic liquids (IL) formed by different cations and anions will be carried out.
The substances called attract interest due to their unique properties: high selectivity in extraction and catalysis, electric conductivity, wide liquidus range from ambient to high temperatures, low volatility and flammability. The IL properties depend significantly the nature of the cation and the an-ion. However, now there is no approach to predict the properties with respect to molecular structure of IL. Purity determination and thermal stability are also very important.
In the project thermodynamic and thermophysical properties of IL with regularly varied structure will be systematically studied in order to determine relations between their structure and propertyes, and substantiation of their possible use in technology. It is proposed to justify and verify a method for determination of purity of IL using calorimetry. Thermodynamic properties of liquids, crystals and glasses of the substances in a wide temperature range (5-500 K) will be studied. The pos-sibility of the transition into a high-conductive state below 50 K will be explored. The methods for theoretical evaluation of the saturated vapor pressure will be developed.
The IL will also be studied with respect to their potential in technology. Namely, saturated vapour pres-sure and activity of water, caprolactam, and cyclohexanone oxime in their solutions with IL will be determined, and caprolactam polymerisation processes in IL will be studied.
