ELECtronic diffusion and promotion in SMES of European manufacturers of FARM machinery sector

Objective

The manufacturer farm machinery sector is nowadays undergoing an evolution process in the following aspects fast evolution of equipment towards higher power needs, with a generalisation of electronic control and the introduction of automated systems, increasing importance of regulations in the sector and standardisation of compatibility between equipment, requirements of minimisation of environmental impact and requirements for safety of use. The European sector is integrated mainly by small enterprises that are in competition with large companies, especially American companies with higher technological level these. European SMEs have to face problems such as lack of information about regulations and new technologies, need for specialised staff in electronics and automatism, few experience in collaboration with technological centres or universities, and lack of knowledge about existing support for RTD and technology transfer projects. The present Accompanying Measure aims at stimulating the sector and promoting the incorporation of new technologies in order to increase SMEs' competitiveness. The consortium consists of four enterprises associations of four European countries that cover 60% of the European farm machinery sector, and international consultants acting as subcontractors. The main instruments used to achieve the objectives proposed will be the following: preparation of a document about the technological & market trends of the sector, checked by all its actors, that will be diffused all over Europe; promotion of the participation in Community RTD programmes, by means of the realisation of 80 technological audits and the preparation of at least 20 Exploratory Awards; organisation of workshops with companies and suppliers of technology in order to promote international co-operation etc.
