The KREO network

Objective

Karlsruhe (DE), Lyon-Grenoble (FR), Emilia-Romagna (I) and Oxfordshire (UK) have been selected as regions of excellence where a supportive environment has been created for innovative enterprises.

Tying together the four regions, the KREO Thematic Network (KREO TN) (co-ordinated by ERVET) aims to study and model specific best practice in terms of support for innovative SMEs, especially for high tech start-ups, developed in the partner regions and to transfer those experiences to the European Innovation policy.

The four KREO partners have joined forces to achieve a range of objectives:
- Identification of regional best practice in support of innovative enterprises studied and assessed by agreed methods;
- A European model of best practice to support the creation of innovative enterprises;
- The transfer of identified best practice, to other partner regions, through participation in workshops and study visits organised by partner regions;
- Active diffusion of the benefits and outcomes of the network is planned, through conferences, inputs to the PAXIS web-site and publications.

The KREO partners have a second project, the KREO Finance Management Development project - focusing on innovative financial instruments for start-ups - which will study the Oxfordshire Business Angel Network, so that similar structures can be established and adapted to the local environment in the partner regions. In addition, consultancy services and tool-kits to support innovative entrepreneurs will be studied and developed.

The aim is that after the 18 months duration of the project, strong, long-term relationships will have been established between partner regions. KREO TN and KREO FMD will encourage the spread of innovation in the European economy, particularly SMEs, and create a supportive environment for innovative start-ups.
