Objective
The objective of the Degree of Master of Rural Development & the Diploma in Rural Development is to upgrade the developmental skills of personnel in general and specific aspects of rural development. The programme is aimed at
(1)-community animateurs
(2)-community leaders and
(3)-development agents.
It enhances their analytical, evaluative & prescriptive skills for their development roles. It includes modules on community development, enterprise management, co-operatives development and information technology.
MAIN DOMAIN OF INNOVATION:
Innovative pedagogical approaches/methodologies. These are constantly under review and being improved in the relevant modules and workshops.
TARGET GROUP(S):
Managers. Trainers/Instructors/Tutors. Disadvantaged groups. Group from the public & private sectors(about 25 persons) from west & northwest areas trained to degree & diploma level.
OPERATING CONTEXT:
Economic regeneration. Safeguarding jobs. Technology transfer. Action research projects of trainees focus on agri-tourism & new employment opportunities.
TECHNOLOGY:
Life science and technologies (incl. biotechnology, agricultural technology, biomedical technology). Environmental related technologies. Information and communication technologies. Policy issues relating to the use and potential of these technologies are addressed.
INVOLVEMENT WITH ENTERPRISES:
Training institute-enterprise cooperation. Partnership with employers associations, trade unions, joint bodies. FAS, Ireland: TEAGASC (Irish Agricultural Institute), Ireland.
INVOLVEMENT OF SOCIAL PARTNERS:
Funding by social partners. Joint social partnership steering/advisory groups. Programme jointly developed with FAS which has social partner representatives on its Board.
RESULTS:
Innovative training materials. Information materials. Transferable models and concepts. Results based on action research are published. Information services are provided by the Carrefour at U.C.G.
