The Microsystems Network

Objective

This project aims at:
i) continuing to expand the activities of the European Network of Microsystems (MST) users and suppliers and;
ii) establishing NEXUS as a legal, non-profit, Association.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The first aim will be achieved through building on the success of the User-Supplier Clubs and their prime tasks of developing technology roadmaps, identifying new opportunities through market investigations and facilitating the process of technology transfer to maintain a European lead in this field of technology.
The second aim will be achieved by setting-up the framework for the transition of this network of about 500 member organisations to a, subscription-based, legal entity. As an Association, NEXUS-2000 will expand its presence and influence on a global basis through NEXUSPAN (linking Eastern Europe) and through formal links and affiliations with non-European organisations in the USA, Japan and Taiwan amongst other countries with microsystems capabilities. This objective will establish NEXUS as a global network, centred in Europe.

NEXUS-2000 has the infrastructure and prominence to fulfil the above objectives and continue to satisfy its over-riding objective of promoting the uptake of microsystems and microtechnologies by European organisations. In this context, NEXUS-2000 will establish new User-Supplier Clubs, publish technology roadmaps and an update of the market analysis report issued by NEXUS in 1998. This project also includes plans for promoting MST and disseminating information through conferences and related activities. This will be achieved through continuing the links NEXUS has established with other related, European, projects, national programmes and consultants.
