Objective
In the present initiative it is proposed the definition and specification of a satellite system approach, where are integrated the Broadcast part and the Interaction Network part, as defined in the ETSI Reference Model for Interactive Systems. It will provide a cost effective solution to support Interactive TV, Internet and Multimedia services, as well as the interworking with the terrestrial network. Following the system definition, the specification, design, development and test of a representative Brodcast Interaction Model will be performed. This model will consist of the following units: Broadcast-Interactive Payload, Prosumer User Station, Corporate User Station, Service Provider Station and System Management Station.
OBJECTIVES
The objective of the present Proposal is, firstly to define and specify a Satellite Interactive Link System, Integrated with the Broadcast Link, for supporting Interactive Tv, Internet and Multimedia services. The up link will be based on the DVB-RCS standard and the down link will be based on the DVB-S standard. The information and data will be transported according to the MFEG-2 and IP Standards, and the system will be implemented by following the ETSI Reference Model for Interactive Systems. The second objective is to specify, develop, integrate and test a Broadcast Interaction System Model, that will be functionally representative of an operational system, by selecting the most adequate system functionalities and performances.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Firstly, a preliminary definition of the proposed Broadcast-Interactive services for advanced digital applications, on the basis of the ETSI, DVB,MPEG2, IP and other relevant standards, will be performed. A standard detailed analysis will be realised with the aim to get an assessment of the different standards applicability to the satellite system. For such a purpose an updated set of the relevant standards will be used, and the various parts of the DVB-RCS documentation set, in particular, will be analysed. When the service and system requirements are defined, it will be proceeded to the definition of the overall system functional architecture, able to comply with such a full set of service and system requirements, on the basis of a satellite multibeam approach and on board processing techniques. Following the complete definition of the various subsystems, the system interfaces will be defined, by identification of the external and internal interface aspects. Finally the definition, functional splitting and global definition of the various system units will be performed. When the system definition and related subsystems are identified, they will be defined individually the various systems units, which are the following: Payload Unit, User Units (Consumer Prosumer/ Corporate), Service Provide Unit, Gateway Unit and Network Control Center. Once the overall system units are characterised, it will be proceeded to the definition and specification of the Broadcast Interaction Model (BIM). Such a Model will b constituted by a reduced configuration of the following system elements: Broadcast-Interaction Payload, User Units, Service Provider Unit and System Management.
