Objective
EDCOMNET is a virtual learning community platform for adult citizens. It will act as a portal stimulating the active learning of social skills bij the citizen. It will empower the individual citizen to be self-reliant part of society fostering creativity and autonomous opinion forming as well as decision-making. The EDCOMNET system will be a network based information system. Local servers communicate through the internet but will operate in the local language and will be embedded in the regional cultural context. A novel multi-agent infra-structure will be developed. EDCOMNET will focus on 3 aspects of LLL: vocational training, family life and functioning of the individual citizen in the communal society. The contribution to the Community's social objectives will be on 2 levels: dissemination of humanistic, democratic values in Europe and assisting the integration of the European citizen into society.
OBJECTIVES
The ultimate objective of the project is to design, develop and implement a virtual platform for communal learning and communication in a community based on guidelines stemming from the integration of two categories of theories: Autonomy Oriented Education and the methodology of Autonomy Oriented tutoring stemming from it and theories about self organising social groups.
There are a few second level instrumental aims stemming from the previous one:
1. Generation of insight into the new forms of organisation in which the citizen is more autonomous and creative, as well as taking part in social activities;
2. Indentify and test the next generation education and training models for LLL;
3. Develop a knowledge management system which relies on virtual ways of knowledge acquisition;
4. Build a virtual platform using insights from humanistic empowerment theory. Autonomy ortiented tutoring and newest vocational training practice;
5. Develop a novel multi-agent infrastructure resulting in a set of tools that enables to integrate information retrieval relevant to the user's needs, and supports learners by mediating processes;
6. Develop and integrate a network system which will be implemented on local servers throughout EU members states, and can be renewed and kept up to standards annually;
7. Test this virtual platform and demonstrate its viability in realising LLL concepts for citizens;
8. Start dissemination and exploitation of EDCOMNET.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
EDCOMNET is an educational communal net, a virtual learning community platform for adult citizens to be set up in many regions of the EU and associated countries like Israel. The net will act as a portal stimulating the active learning of social skills by the citizens, thus enhancing the social integration of individuals within urban communities. It will empower the individual citizens to be a self-reliant part of society, fostering creativity and autonomous opinion forming as well as decision-making. The EDCOMNET system will be a network based information system consisting of a number of local servers. The different servers communicate through the internet but will operate in the local language and will be embedded in the regional cultural context. In the underlying RTD project a novel multi-agent infrastructure will be developed enabling information retrieval relevant to the needs of average citizens as users. EDCOMNET will focus on three aspects of life long learning, one directed to vocational training, one to family life and one to the functioning of the individual citizen in the communal society. The net's contributed to the Community's social objectives will be on two levels: dissemination of humanistic, democratic values in Europe and assisting the integration of the European citizen into society. The platform will also contribute to pan-European and intercultural exchanges.
