Integrating the Health Care Enterprise in Europe Concerted Action

Objective

Industry and users will cooperate in the project in order to achieve the following goals:
- Make European health care providers aware of the potential benefits from integrated IT solutions
- Provide European health care providers with a possibility to influence the development of such solutions
- Provide manufacturers with a platform to develop interoperability solutions at world-class level, taking care of market requirements

Objectives:
- Secure the competitiveness of European health care providers as well as European manufacturers for health care IT and IT dependent: systems, especially SME.
- Provide manufacturers, especially SME, with a platform to develop interoperability solutions at world-class level, taking care of market requirements
- Make European health care providers aware of the potential benefits from integrated IT solutions
- Provide European health care providers with a possibility to influence the development of such solutions

Work description:
COCIR and EAR/ECR will organise a demonstration of interoperable health care IT products and imaging systems in a realistic setting, that mimics a health care enterprise. In order to provide to provide a realistic description of a European health care enterprise, a working group of representatives from industry, EAR/ECR and national radiological associations will supervise the project. Technical work will be performed by a technical coordinator with additional staff as subcontractor. The project will develop and provide application scenarios as well as technical requirements for the integration of the health care information systems, imaging systems and other modalities Requirements will be jointly developed by COCIR, EAR/ECR and other interested parties. The project will also monitor and support the inclusion of innovative products into the demonstration and set up the demonstration for display. Integration will take place across manufacturers and their technical solutions. Participation is open to all interested parties. The project will also provide a consistent and reliable framework for the inclusion of additional leading edge applications. The demonstration will be presented at the European Congress of Radiology. It will also be available for other national exhibitions and congresses, e.g. Medica (D), Journees Francaises de Radiologie (JFR) (F).

Milestones:
Open workshop for industry and health care providers in 2000. Demonstration of integration results at ECR in 2001 + other exhibitions and congresses. Promote interoperability of IT solutions across all participating vendors. Provide a platform for development of interoperable solutions for SME. Demonstrate the benefit of interoperable installations for processes, efficiency and quality of work in health care enterprises. Integrate requirements from health care providers into solutions.
